Our leadership

Jim Parke is Managing Director of Australian Workplace Strategies and Parke Lawyers. He has advised on employment matters for more than 30 years, bringing legal, accounting and governance experience to complex workplace and business decisions.

At AWS, Jim directs the firm’s workplace consulting, work health and safety, and governance, risk and compliance services. He works with employers and senior leaders on workplace strategy, employment risk and practical systems for making, implementing and documenting decisions.

Jim is a legal practitioner admitted to practise throughout Australia and New Zealand, an Accredited Specialist in Commercial Law, a Chartered Accountant and a Fellow of CPA Australia. He is also a Certified Professional Member of the Australian Human Resources Institute and a Member of the Business Continuity Institute.

His qualifications include a Master of Science from the University of Oxford, a Master of Laws and Bachelor of Laws from Queensland University of Technology, a Master of Jurisprudence from Bond University, and graduate diplomas in applied corporate governance and management.

Andrew Herbert is a retired barrister with almost 50 years’ experience in industrial and employment law. He practised at the Bar from 1977 until retiring in 2026. From approximately 1985, he specialised in industrial and employment law in Queensland and developed a substantial practice across Australia.

During his career at the Bar, Andrew acted for employers, unions, employees and governments in workplace and industrial relations matters. That breadth gives him a balanced understanding of the legal, strategic and practical considerations arising in complex workplace matters.

Doyle’s Guide ranked Andrew as a Preeminent Queensland Employment and WHS junior counsel in 2012, 2014 and each year from 2017 to 2021. It also ranked him as a Leading Australian Employment junior counsel from 2017 to 2020.

Andrew is retired from legal practice and no longer practises as a barrister. He continues to work in the industrial and employment sector as a consultant. As Executive Adviser to Australian Workplace Strategies, he contributes his experience to complex employment and workplace relations matters, strategic workplace issues and practical solutions for clients.
